Scope and Content Note

The series consists of seven scrapbooks created by Richard Vetter during his time in various executive staff positions of the Committee on Oceanography of the National Academy of Sciences and National Research Council. The scrapbooks contain articles, news clippings, photocopies, editorials, magazines, photographs, reports, newsletters, legislation and press releases relating to oceanography, oceanographic research and projects, and policy issues affecting oceanography.

Physical Characteristics

Scrapbooks IV, V, and VI have extremely brittle covers, and the front cover on scrapbook VI has separated from the rest of the book.

Most items are held in the scrapbooks with glue, although some are attached with staples or tape. The glue in all of the notebooks has become brittle, and many articles are separating from the pages. Some scrapbooks also have materials held unsecured between the pages of the books.
