 File — Box: 7, Folder: 64

Scope and Content Note

From the Series:

The bulk of the records range from 1973-1991 and contain meeting minutes, correspondence, proposals, surveys, statistics, and newspaper and magazine clippings.

Folders labeled ‘Minutes’ contain additional information of a general nature on topics of interest to the committee and sometimes contained no meeting minutes. The files contain seminar and activities suggestions, and proposed actions to enlighten, inform, and further the equity of women at the Institution. There is information concerning the Committee’s ongoing interest in employment equity, professional development, employee assistance programs (EAPs), the Equal Rights Amendment and its applications, students, child care, and managing multiple roles. Biographical material on women personnel can be found in folders on women in oceanography. There are statistics, surveys, and lists gathered from WHOI annual reports dating from 1930 to 1985. A study on Equity Climate Assessment and a research proposal on a science career workshop, by Dr. Nancy Marcus, reflect the Committee’s in-depth interest in these topics. Also included are non-WHOI articles and reprints on the activities of some professional organizations for women in oceanography and fisheries.
