Historical Information
At a staff meeting held on January 19, 1973, Director Paul Fye appointed a committee to look into employment practices and procedures for minority groups and women at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The Women’s Committee is an outgrowth of that group. Mary McGilvray was asked by Director Fye to chair a committee made up of staff members whose objective was to act, per the charter, as "a forum for the ideas and concerns of women associated with WHOI", and to sponsor seminars and programs of interest to all employees.
