Historical Information

In 1962, Scientific Visiting Committees were charged with evaluating all aspects of the scientific program at WHOI including any administrative or support activities which contribute to our scientific productivity. They were also charged with evaluating the balance of scientific effort within the Institution and to make recommendations concerning areas which appear to be neglected or overemphasized. In addition to this, they were to discuss with individual scientists their research programs, their plans and hopes for the future, and their support and cooperation within the laboratory; to evaluate the newly formed departmental organization; and to consider the sources of financial support of our research and to evaluate whether different sources are more or less valuable for our scientific development.
