Scope and Content Note
The Melvin A. Rosenfeld papers contain information on a number of Rosenfeld's activities at WHOI, including his work in the Ocean Engineering department, the formation of the Staff Committee, work relating to the Computer Group, evaluations of the WHOI Data Library, and a proposal for a cooperative national laboratory program. Materials in the papers include agenda and minutes, notes, reports, drafts, articles, proposals, guidelines, annual reports, correspondence and memoranda.

Biographical Information
Melvin A. Rosenfeld was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1918. He received a B.S. in Geology from the University of Chicago in 1940, and his M.S. (1950) and Ph.D. (1953) in Geology from Pennsylvania State University. Rosenfeld came to WHOI in 1965 as manager of the Computer Group. In 1969 he became manager of the Information Processing Center. He retired in January 1981.
