'Albatross' in the South Pacific from August 23, 1899 to March 4, 1900 Alfred G. Mayer" Enclosure holds 16 folios with manuscript narratives and sketches of the voyage, mostly written with brown ink pen. Possibly never bound as one book, cover papers are trimmed and of heavier-weight paper that may be waxed. Folios are heavy-weight, pin-striped papers of approximately 7 7/7 x 9 5/8 inches, folded once into folios measuring 5 x 7 7/8 inches. Very little staining, no apparent water or pest intrusion. Most writing is in English, Latin script, with a few transliterated Tahitian songs and sayings. Negatives date from 1897-1900 ; 16 negatives are 4 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches; 18 negatives are 4 x 5 inches
