Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of materials relating to the MODE and POLYMODE programs. Materials include correspondence, magazine articles, press releases, publications, and lists. Of interest is a special humorous issue of the program’s Polymode News, but spelled Polly Mowed Gnus, printed in 1978. Also of interest are articles erroneously linking the program’s research with the Bermuda Triangle, and the subsequent interest generated in the program.

POLYMODE is a follow-up to the USSR POLYGON-70 experiment, carried out in the spring of 1970 in the Eastern North Atlantic, and to the US-UK Mid-Ocean Dynamics Experiment (MODE), carried out in the spring of 1973 in the Western North Atlantic.
