Biographical Information
Richard E. Payne is an Oceanographer Emeritus in the WHOI Physical Oceanography department. He received his B.S. in Physics from Bowdoin College (1958), an M.S. in Physics from the University of Maryland (1962) and a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the University of Rhode Island (1971). His research interests include the design, use and calibration of meteorological and oceanographic sensors on moored buoys.

The papers were stored in Payne's office in Clark South 178B prior to their donation to the archives.

The papers were received from Richard E. Payne as acc2013-10 on August 21, 2013.
Separated Material
One box of publications, including copies of Oceanus and Woods Hole Notes, were removed from the papers and used to fill in other collections or discarded.
