Biographical Note
Vaughan T. Bowen was born in Buffalo, New York in 1916. He received both his B.A. and Ph.D. from Yale University. He served as an analytical chemist for the Chevrolet Motor Company and the Manhattan District before working as a lecturer in zoology at Yale. He also worked as a biologist at Brookhaven National Laboratory from 1948 to 1960. In 1954 Bowen was appointed to the WHOI staff as a geochemist, served as executive officer in 1960-1961, and was appointed as a senior scientist in 1963. At WHOI, his principal area of study was environmental radio chemistry. Bowen died in Wayne, Pennsylvania in April 1994.
