Biographical Note

Ferris Webster is a native of Alberta, Canada, and received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from the University of Alberta, and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1961. He came to WHOI in 1959, became an associate scientist in 1965, and a senior scientist in 1970. In 1971 he became Chairman of the Department of Physical Oceanography. His main areas of research included the study of ocean currents and oceanographic data processing.
