Biographical Information
Mike Bacon is a Scientist Emeritus in the Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry Department at WHOI. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Michigan State University in 1968, and his Ph.D. in Oceanography from the MIT/WHOI Joint Program in 1976. His research interests include Environmental radioactivity, the application of radioactive nuclides to problems in oceanography, geochemistry, and geochronology; use of radionuclides to examine chemical exchange at interfaces (e.g., water/particle, water/sediment, water/rock, and water/air interfaces); applications to the study of chemical fluxes in the oceanic water column and processes by which radionuclides and trace metals are removed from the ocean; applications to the interpretation of the deep-sea sediment record.
