From OC 235 letter to Captain Paul C. Howland, the cruise purpose was to "recover instrument arrays of ECONOMEX and surface reverberation acoustic experimental programs. From OC 238 Cruise Report objectives: "to recover six ONR (Office of Naval Research) ocean bottom seismometers and George Frisk's ocean floor vertical and horizontal arrays that were deployed in February to monitor ULF/VLF ambient noise as part of the ECONOMEX project. To recover three National Data Buoy Centre Discus buoys and one MET buoy that had been deployed under the direction of Dr. Hans Graber of the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Miami as part of the SWADE project."
