Director’s report to Trustees, 1965

The Executive series spans the years 1953 to 1982, with the bulk of material dating from 1958 to 1977. Several folders overlap the directorships of both Columbus Iselin and John Steele (boxes 19-20, 99-100). The series consists of correspondence, meeting minutes, memoranda and notes, and contains information about meetings, committees, buildings, programs, policies, fellowships, research vessels, and personnel. The series contains information on a search for a new director to replace Iselin (box 19, f.60; box 20, f.13). Several folders address the changing organizational structure of WHOI, including Fye’s remarks to the staff about the need for an associate director, for example, and the appointment of committees and a staff council (box 30, ff. 20-22). Other files pertaining to the administrative changes had been removed but later returned to Fye’s files during processing (box 30, f7, ff. 38-39).
