The Instrument Development series consists of notes, drawings, designs, test reports and other material relating to the design, testing and implementation of various oceanographic instruments at WHOI.

Arrangement

The series is arranged in four subseries, by type of instrument. Subseries include:

  1. Bathythermographs
  2. Rock Drill
  3. Ocean Bottom Instrument Package (OBIP) Recorder
  4. Miscellaneous Instruments

Folders within the subseries are arranged in the order in which they were received.

Acquisition Information

Material in the series was received as acc. 90-2, 90-3, 2010-06 and 2010-10. Accessions 2010-06 and 2010-10 were received from Raymond Davis in March and May 2010.

Separated Material

Several folders of photographs relating to the development of the rock drill and OBIP recorder were removed and added to the WHOI Image Collection. Material on the ARGO was received from J. Howland in September 2001.
